IATSE Local 134: History and Mission

"Building Events and Relationships for over 118 years"

Establishment and Early History
On April 1, 1907, the Federal Trade Council granted a charter to fifteen theater professionals in San Jose, California, formally establishing a local branch of the New York–based Theatrical Mechanics Association. This organization evolved into what is now known as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, its Territories, and Canada (I.A.T.S.E.).


Jurisdiction and Scope
Since its founding, IATSE Local 134 has consolidated its jurisdiction to encompass the entirety of Santa Clara County. Over more than a century of operation, the Local has become an integral component of the regional entertainment industry, providing highly trained stage and production technicians for a diverse range of events and venues.


Services and Membership
IATSE Local 134 dispatches skilled professionals to support live theatrical productions, concerts, conventions, trade shows, sporting events, major motion picture productions, theatrical installations, and other entertainment and corporate events throughout the county.


The Local’s membership consists primarily of residents of Santa Clara County and neighboring communities. Members represent a wide array of technical disciplines, including moving light programming, rope access rigging, film gripping, set carpentry, projection, and audio engineering. Through this collective expertise, IATSE 134 provides employers with a dependable workforce recognized for its professionalism, safety, and technical excellence.


Governance and Community Engagement
Local 134 is democratically governed and operated by its membership. Each member has an equal opportunity to participate in decision-making processes and to help shape policies and initiatives that best serve the interests of the organization. The Local is also committed to civic engagement and strives to enhance the overall quality of life within the community through its work and partnerships.

The Local continues to uphold its long-standing tradition of craftsmanship, solidarity, and service, providing indispensable support to employers while strengthening the region’s dynamic arts and entertainment community.
